Excerpt (in translation): Kvindernes Boligselskap AS was founded in 1923 by Elise Sem. The housing association was located in the center of Oslo, opposite the Bislett stadium and a short walk from Stensparken with Fagerborg church. The project was completed in 1903. Elise Sem was Norway's first female prosecutor and Supreme Court lawyer. The background for the establishment of the housing company was a gender-discriminatory law which meant that women were not allowed to buy their own flat. Supreme Court advocate Sem wanted to do something about this situation. By building the apartment building in Thereses gate 35 B, she managed to show equality between women and men in practice. Here, financially independent women could fend for themselves. The homes, which were designed by architect Henrik Nissen, were one- and two-room apartments with a shared shower and toilet.(Submitted on July 13, 2023.)
