1. Centenary Methodist Church Bell Marker
Inscription.
This historic bell, manufactured by the William Buckley Co., New York, New York / circa 1830, was installed in the steeple of Centenary Methodist Church in 1839. In addition to ringing in weekly services, during the 19th and early 20th century the bell served to warn local citizens of Indian raids, Civil War conflicts, and was rung to celebrate significant events in the community; including honoring WWII veterans and the 100th anniversary of Centenary Church.

Moved to the current location and re-dedicated on 29 September 2012, the bell continues to ring out its “Call to Worship” for Centenary United Methodist Church and the surrounding community.

Also see . . .  The History of Centenary United Methodist Church. Excerpt:
There was a Methodist "Mission" work here in Quincy during the 1820's, but a wooden building known from public records as a "House of Worship for the M in Quincy" was erected during the "thirties." The year 1839 was eventful for the Methodist congregation because a new church was erected on the corner of Madison and Franklin Streets. The second church building was a colonial type made of brick and stuccoed with white cement. A steeple housed the bell that is prominently displayed on Madison Street today while a wide porch covered the front supported by colonial columns.
