Down By The Old Mill Stream
— Tell Taylor Memorial —
A grist mill seven miles upstream, around witch Tell Taylor played as a boy gave him the inspiration for his song "Down By The Old Mill Stream."
Near this spot Tell Taylor, while fishing along the Blanchard River bank one summer day in 1908, wrote the ballad "Down By The Old Mill Stream." The song was not published until 1910. A whistleable singable tune depicting country scenes and teenage romance. The ballad received instant acclaim and continues to be sung the world over. Born Oct. 28, 1876 in Vanlu, O. Tell Taylor lived most of his life in Findlay. He died in Chicago Nov. 23, 1937, en-route to Hollywood Calif. to film the story of this, his most popular song.
