Sugar House
Hale Farm & Village
The Hale Family Sugar House was built by Charles Oviatt Hale at the beginning of the 20th century. In building a Sugar House, Charles (C.O.) was carrying on the tradition of his grandfather Jonathan, who began maple sugaring in the early 19th century. During his lifetime C. O tapped nearly twenty acres of sugar maples, producing over 200 gallons of syrup in a good year.
Today the Sugar House is equipped with a wood burning parallel flow evaporator that converts the sap to syrup. It is used by Hale Farm and Village during the Maple Sugaring Program, which runs in the month of February.
