1. Poop Deck Marker
Inscription. The poop deck, also called the quarterdeck, is the raised deck in the stern of the ship. The term "poop deck" has its roots in the French word for the stern la poupe Here the captain and the mates stood watch. Sailors came up only with permission and then only to steer or tend to sails. Below where you are now standing are the saloon and officers' quarters.
