1. Joseph Thomas House Marker
Inscription. This house was a "station" on the Underground Railroad, a place that offered assistance to runaway slaves during their flight to freedom. Early building owners include James Janney who bought the house in 1835, James Farr who bought the house in 1838, and Joseph Thomas who bought the house in 1866. All three men were members of the Society of Friends (Quakers) and all were "conductors" on the Underground Railroad, persons who risked their lives and property to escort runaway slaves on their flight to freedom.
