Loss of suitable habitat is the primary threat to most populations but the tiger is also illegally hunted.

Tigers are solitary for that rely on stealth in order of speed on capture their prey.
A large animal needs camouflage in order to stalk close enough for an attack.
Alternating light and dark stripes help to break up the tiger's silhouette, enabling it to blend is with the vegetation and dappled sunlight.
