Humans And Bears Continue To Share A Fragile Relationship
Inscription.
Human and bear conflict remains the biggest threat to many bear species.
As bear habitat shrinks and human population grows, bear-human encounters are certain to happen. Property damage, economic loss or human injury usually leads to the death of the troublesome bear.
Access to food is at the bottom of most human-bear conflicts.
Bears normally forage for food in their natural habitat. Sometimes messy humans accidentally provide access to an easy meal. An open garbage container with the remnants of last night's dinner is easy fare for a bear. Throw in the day old bread and seed at the backyard bird feeder and now there is a conflict that usually goes badly for the bear.
