1982
Kings Island's tenth anniversary included a line-up of exciting new rides and attractions for the whole family, including an overhaul to Hanna-Barbera Land with fun new rides like the Hanna-Barbera Carousel, Rawhide Railway, and Scooby Choo.

Viking Fury, the world's largest swinging ship, and Timberwolf, a 10,000-seat concert venue, both opened mid-season. In November, a new holiday celebration named Winterfest made its festive debut with ice skating on the Royal Fountain, carriage rides, and winter wonderland of twinkling lights.

1983
Festhaus made its official debut. The new dining facility offered both authentic German cuisine and live entertainment.

The Bat operated for its final time. The prototype ride remained dormant at the park for another year before being removed to accommodate a big expansion for the 1987 season.

1984
King Cobra, the world's first stand-up, looping roller coaster, made its debut. The $3 million thrill ride was fully built and tested in Japan before being disassembled and shipped across the ocean all the way to Kings Island, where the ride was re-built in time for the park's opening day.

Smurf's Enchanted Voyage opened in Hanna-Barbera Land. The whimsical dark ride re-used the Enchanted Voyage's existing ride

system and transported park guests on a colorful, musical trip through the Smurf seasons.

White Water Canyon, a rip-roaring rapids ride, made a splash in Rivertown. The attraction was built into the terrain and even passed under the Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad twice. Riders were warned "You will get wet. You may get drenched!"

1986
The Coney Island section of the park was officially renamed Coney Mall and several exciting new rides and experiences were added. This included the Zephyr swing ride, the unique Cinema 180 theater, an enlarged Dodgem ride, and the dizzying Skylab spinning ride.

To accommodate the new attractions, the Flying Carpet slide was relocated to Hanna-Barbera Land, shortened, and became Scrappy's Slides. Park guests continued to enjoy the low-tech, high-fun attraction for another decade before it was retired in the mid-1990s.
