Looking north up the Hudson river, you can see Hell's Kitchen and uptown areas of Manhattan on the east side and Weehawken, New Jersey to the west. The World War II aircraft carrier the Intrepid can be seen amongst the piers on the eastern side of the river. The nearby Lincoln Tunnel was the second tunnel constructed by the Port Authority of New York connecting Manhattan and New Jersey completed between 1937 and 1957. The initial toll was $0.50 per car.

The Circle Line X, a sightseeing vessel with New York City's famed Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises Company, started life as a Landing Craft Infantry (LCI) Large (L) in World War II. when it was decommissioned, it was reconfigured as a sightseeing vessel.
Crews aboard the Intrepid served in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans, as well as the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas, before the ship's final decommissioning in 1974. Since 1982 it has hosted the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
