On March 1, 1943 (24 Adar I, 5703 in the Hebrew Calendar), the inhabitants of this building, then known as the Jewish Invalid, were taken away by the enemy to their deaths. From the iron of their chains the state of Israel was forged.

Overview (in translation): The Jewish Invalid Society was a Dutch institution for the care of Jewish elderly and disabled people in Amsterdam. The association was founded in 1911 and from 1912 had its own building. New construction on the Weesperplein was brought into use in 1937(Submitted on July 23, 2023.)
Deportation: It was in use until March 1, 1943, when 256 persons (inmates and staff) were deported. Only a few people managed to escape. A large number of the deportees were murdered on 13 March 1943 in Sobibor.
