The first courthouse on this site was the Confederate capitol of Louisiana and headquarters of the Trans-Mississippi Dept. C.S.A. from 1863 until May 26, 1865, When the last Confederate flag was lowered. Maj. General Henry W. Allen was inaugurated here and served here as governor.
