Regarding Temple Street Grade Separation. When President Roosevelt took office in 1933, the Federal government began to implement his promise of "a new deal," a series of programs, public work projects, financial reforms, and regulations enacted to help improve the lives of people suffering from the events of the Great Depression. The Public Works Administration, sometimes called by its full name, the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, built this large concrete bridge over Figueroa Street in 1939.
