The Downfall of Tiburcio Vasquez
The Downfall of Tiburcio Vasquez began here in what was at that time the Monterey County hamlet of Tres Pinos at about 7 p.m. on August 26, 1873, when the notorious outlaw and six others arrived to rob Andrew Snyder's store.
But first, they shot and killed Bernal Berhuri, George Redford and Leander Davidson.
Outrage over these killings prompted a reward and manhunt, which resulted in Vasquez's eventual capture and arrest on May 14, 1874, at a ranch house near Los Angeles.
Due to publicity, his trial for the killing of Leander Davidson was moved from Salinas to San Jose, where he was found guilty and subsequently hanged on March 19, 1875.
