and Hannah Catharine, nee Steck, his wife, 1832-1899
founder and superintendent of the Uniontown Soldiers Orphan School, 1866 to 1890 and the
Rev. John Armstrong Waters
1856-1922
superintendent from 1890 to 1907.

Regarding Rev. Asa Harris Waters. The Pennsylvania Soldiers' Orphan School moved to this site from Uniontown in 1875. The school cared for orphans of Civil War soldiers until it closed in 1901. The property was acquired by Harry Whyel, who had served on the orphan school's board of directors, and donated the property to the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1941.
