Inscription.  
Aristide Boucicaut, créateur du Bon Marché, créa le concept de « grands magasins», révolutionnaire pour l'époque. Son principe reposait sur une entrée libre et des prix attractifs. Son succès inspira Émile Zola dans Au bonheur des dames. La charpente du bâtiment, datant de 1876, a été pensée par Gustave Eiffel.

Une centaine d'arbres, dont certains centenaires, ombragent les parterres.

(English translation:)

Aristide Boucicaut, creator of Le Bon Marché, created the concept of "department stores", revolutionary for the time. Its principle was based on free entry and attractive prices. Its success inspired Émile Zola in Au bonheur des dames. The structure of the building, dating from 1876, was designed by Gustave Eiffel.

A hundred trees, some of which are centenarians, shade the flowerbeds.
