L'altezza originaria delle pelte e della fontana al centro non è più determinabile, ma è probabile che fosse di alcuni metri. Al centro si può ricostruire un getto di acqua di notevole altezza. L'ambiente era inoltre arricchito da folte aiuole, da vaschette forse per pesci decorativi e da un sontuoso apparato scultoreo. Questa particolare scenografia di acqua e di architettura servi certamente di ispirazione ad alcune costruzioni di Villa Adriana.
L'area aperta era circondata da numerose sale di soggiorno e da alcuni ninfei, che nelle calde giornate rendevano particolarmente fresca questa parte del palazzo.
The lower peristyle, visible from above, was lavishly decorated and had at its centre, as usual, a grand fountain. Its most distinctive feature was its pattern of four peltae (crescent-shaped shields, as used by Amazons) separated

The original height of the shields and of the fountain at the centre is uncertain, but it was probably several metres. We should probably reconstruct it with a very high jet of water at the centre. The area was also decorated with abundant flower beds, small basins perhaps for ornamental fish, and a lavish sculptural programme. This distinctive stage set-like arrangement of water and architecture was surely inspired by some of the structures of Hadrian's Villa.
The open area was surrounded by numerous living rooms and nymphaea, which would have made it a particularly cool part of the palace on hot days.
