Il basamento della domus Tiberiana, ben visibile lungo questo lato meridionale, era attraversato da gallerie che garantivano la comunicazione tra i vari settori interni al palazzo e che, come fossero strade, collegavano direttamente quartieri del Palatino altrimenti separati. In una di queste gallerie l'imperatore Caligola fu assassinato nel 41 d.C. Il basamento ospitava inoltre ambienti di servizio. Le numerose stanze voltate costruite a ridosso del basamento su questo lato erano forse alloggi per il personale di guardia, come suggeriscono graffiti con disegni e nomi di soldati incisi sull'intonaco.
Service Rooms Next to the Platform
The platform of the domus Tiberiana, clearly visible here on the south side; was crossed by galleries connecting the various sectors of the palace and linking parts of the Palatine which would otherwise have been separate.
