1. Bowsprit Marker
Inscription. This huge timber was once a bowsprit aboard Forester, a four-masted schooner built in 1900 to carry lumber from the Pacific Northwest to growing coastal ports like San Diego. After many years of service, Forester was eventually abandoned on a mudflat in Martinez, California, and on June 18, 1975, she caught fire and burned to the waterline. This ended the life of one of the last remnant of coastal lumber trade that fueled California's boom expansion at the beginning of the twentieth century.
