John M. Palmer (1817-1900), friend of Abraham Lincoln, Civil War Major General who later became the Governor of Illinois, U.S. Senator, and Gold Democrat Presidential Candidate.
The east wing of the Palmer House was moved in the early 1900's and is located at 233 E. 2nd South Street. Both homes are privately owned.
Continue on Trail 1 to Site 6b. Continue east on E. 2nd South Street. Stop at 233 E. 2nd South, the east wing of Governor Palmer House. Then continue east to the intersection of Charles and Mayo.
