1. Korean War Marker
Inscription. The first war in which a world organization, the United Nations (UN), played a military role. The Korean War was a major challenge for the United Nations, which had come into existence only five years earlier. United Nations military lost 628,833 lives, of which 54,246 were Americans. These brave and courageous heroes gave their lives, flesh and blood to beat back the communist forces that threatened to devour, oppress and control all of Asia and the free world. The United States provided about 90 percent of the troops, military equipment, and supplies that were sent to South Korea.
