Amelia Earhart was an American aviation pioneer, author and women's rights activist. She was the 16th woman in the world to be issued a pilot's license and was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1936, she flew a customized Lockheed Electra 10E Aircraft that was built at the Burbank Lockheed facility, which is now home to the Burbank Empire Center. She continued to fly in and out of Burbank Airport until her disappearance in 1937, at the age of 40 during an attempt to fly around the world. Her disappearance is a mystery that continues to intrigue people worldwide.
