Description: Short reddish brown to tawny gray fur, long legs and large ears.
Size: 18"-26" at the shoulder
Weight: 40-90 lbs
Lifespan: 6-7 years in the wild, up to 15 years in captivity
Range:
Historically, red wolves ranged throughout the southeastern U.S. from Pennsylvania to Florida and as far west as Texas. Today, wild populations are isolated to a few areas in northeastern North Carolina, including Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.
Diet:
Rabbits, muskrats, nutria, and other small animals. Hunt alone or with their mate.
Status: Critically Endangered
