1. 1983 Stoeckel Award Marker

Inscription. This imposing home was built by businessman, George Riley Jones and his wife, Margaret, in 1901-1903. Alfred Grindle, the architect, designed this Colonial Revival style building. The Jones' enjoyed and occupied this house during their lifetime.

In 1940, the house was purchased by George Geisler and wife, Bessie, who owned a meat market in the downtown area. The structure was occupied by a Geisler until 1980.

1981 brought new owners and a new use for this important structure. The house was purchased by members of the Riley-Jones Club, Inc., to be restored and used as a woman's club. The authentic restoration is a fine example of an adaptive reuse structure, and a notable addition to the downtown area.

Ownership can control the destiny of important buildings. Another landmark saved for posterity!
