Inscription.  La basilica Giulia che, come tutte le altre, era un edificio destinato a offrire uno spazio coperto per le Funzioni sociali più svariate, fu iniziata da Giulio Cesare nel 54 a.C. al posto della basilica Sempronia e delle tabernae veteres. Fu ricostruita da Augusto che la dedicò nel 12 a.C. La basilica subì vari incendi nel corso dei secoli e fu restaurata nel IV secolo d.C. da Diocleziano e ancora dopo il sacco di Roma di Alarico (410 d.C.). L'edificio a pianta rettangolare era circondato sui quattro lati da un portico a doppio colonnato, di cui sopravvivono solo le basi dei pilastri. Resti delle tabernae, costituiti da piccole aule destinate a uffici e luoghi di riunione, sono visibili sul lato sud dell'edificio.

The Basilica Iulia, like all the other basilicas, was a building to be used as a covered space for all different kind of social functions; it was begun by Julius Caesar in 54 BC in place of the Basilica Sempronia and the tabernae veteres. century AD by Diocletian and again after Alaric's sack of Rome (AD 410). The rectangular building was surrounded on all four sides by a double colonnaded portico, of which only the bases of the pillars survive. Remains of the tabernae, small rooms used as offices and meeting places, can be seen on the south side of the building.
