Mills Park and Pleasant Home. . , This southwest corner of the park features a Discovery Zone for park visitors of all ages to explore and reconnect with nature. Mills Park's original owner John Farson was known for his fun, eclectic spirit, and this area reflects his sense of adventure. You won't find a formal playground here, but you will find plenty of opportunities to play!, Pictured above is one of the stained glass windows that flanks the entrance to Pleasant Home. At the top and bottom of the design is a motif called an anthemion, which is designed from the American honeysuckle. Spirals, like plant fronds, loop in the corners of the design, and are echoed on the grounds in the labyrinth., The labyrinth is laid out in a spiral shape, and features a timeline theme that is designed to have you travel through the ages. This is just one more example of the use of architect George W. Maher's "motif rhythm theory" of uniting the grounds, interior and exterior of the property through the use of repeating decorative elements. Search the park to see what other repeated motifs you can find!, Welcome to Mills Park and Pleasant Home , This public historic site (also known as the John Farson House) was once the private home of John and Mamie Farson (1897-1910) and Herbert and Leonie Mills (1910-1939). The entire estate has been owned by the Park District of Oak Park since 1939 and operated by the Pleasant Home Foundation since 1990. Mills Park (named after the second owners) features historic, natural and discovery zones for all to enjoy. Pleasant Home, designed by George W. Maher in 1897, is a National Historic Landmark.
