1. Gardens at Hagley Marker
Inscription.
There have been gardens at Hagley for more than two centuries. Some were planted to feed the duPont family and other residents on the property. Others were designed as beautiful spaces to relax and to entertain. This garden provides food and is a beautiful space, but for a very different type of Hagley resident.

This is Hagley's Pollinator Garden. It is one of many ways Hagley is working to help restore the pollinator population in our community. But what are pollinators? Why are they important? Why are they in trouble? How does Hagley's garden help? And how can you help?

Pollen is a tiny, powder-like material that needs to move from one plant to another for certain plants to grow. The process of moving pollen from one plant to another is called pollination. Flowers and ornamental, or decorative, plants need pollination. So do plants that produce fruits, vegetables, and ingredients for medicines-all things that we need to survive.
