300-Year-Old Oak Tree
In the summer of 2020, two storms—Hurricane Isaias on August 4 and a tornado on August 7—struck the Winterthur landscape, felling over ninety trees in their wake. This 300-year-old white oak tree (Quercus alba), which had been an icon in the landscape of Winterthur's Browns Meadow and had inspired many artists, fell in those storms. Visit the Winterthur galleries to see some of the works inspired by this tree.
