Inscription. Shiloh has been a close-knit community for generations. While many people have dedicated the time and efforts to improve the quality of life, a few have left an especially lasting impression.

A few of those who have influenced the Shiloh Community's development in significant ways spiritually, socially and economically, are listed below.

Dr. James Dunston Dr. James Dunston became the pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in 1882. He oversaw the construction of the current church and was instrumental in spearheading the drive for church members to purchase farmland and develop a co-op store. To honor his dedication to the Shiloh Community, Dr. Dunston was buried on the church grounds, the only pastor to receive this distinction.

Jesse Harris Known as the Father of Scientific Farming, Jesse Harris was a staunch activist for improving agriculture in Shiloh. He also played an important role in convincing people to purchase farmland in and around the Shiloh Community. Harris's skills in teaching farming techniques positioned Shiloh as a strong contender in the regional agriculture industry in the early 1900s.

Reverend Ed Cole Shiloh Community's very first spiritual leader, he began his ministry in 1867, building the first Shiloh Baptist Church on land that was donated by Rev. J.H.

Dunston and the brothers Major Weaver and Bloc Weaver. Reverend Cole was often called “Shiloh's Moses” because he drew people together to build a place they could call their own.

Luther Green Luther Green was a very active member of the Shiloh Community. He organized the Shiloh baseball team, which was well known in the Tobacco League in the 1940s. He also built multiple houses and organized athletic and academic programs for youth in the community. The community center where Green spent time organizing the Shiloh Baseball team was named in his honor, and is still used as a venue for citizens to come together and socialize.
