Schuylkill Haven in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Parkway South
Schuylkill Haven Heritage Trail
Looking south on Parkway, this circa 1930 photograph shows the "islands" created as a park, where the canal had previously traversed through the town. The shoe factory on the immediate right was originally established in 1887 as Berger, Brown and Company and renamed Walkin Shoe Company in 1909. Just south of that building is the former South Ward school building, built in 1900. The area at the far end of this view was known as "Quarley Point" in the days of the canal because canal boatmen quarreled frequently in this section.
