Fishermen’s Terminal
Before the railroads reached Eureka in 1914, the ocean was the highway. The large green-roofed building to your right is the Fishermen’s Terminal built in the early 2000s. It sits upon the site of the Nelson Steamship Co. where passenger ships brought thousands of people to Eureka beginning in the 1860s After 1940 it was used by the Tom Lazio Fish Company as a fish processing plant and the renowned Lazio’s Seafood Restaurant through the early 1980s.

Today’s Fishermen’s Terminal provides a facility for commercial fishermen to offload their catch, sell to fish buyers, load supplies, and perform boat maintenance.

The M.V. Madaket
The 1910 Motor Vessel Madaket was built on Humboldt Bay as a ferry launch to transport mill workers to and from lumber operations across Humboldt Bay. She served the bay community from 1910 until 1971, when the Samoa Bridge was built. Since 1972 Madaket has operated from the foot of C Street dock (Madaket Plaza) as a harbor cruise vessel. Owned and operated by the Humboldt Bay Maritime Museum, she offers informative harbor cruises showcasing the history and natural beauty of Humboldt Bay.

Now lovingly restored, Madaket is the oldest continuously operating passenger vessel in the United States and the sole survivor of all the ferry boats
