1. The Cuban Club Marker
Inscription. Built in 1917 as a “club” for Cuban cigar makers. It was the center of social and community life for the Cuban population at the height of the cigar industry in Key West. The building was alive with constant din of domino games between the cigar worker’s. Rum and refreshments were available and the fragrance of roast pig and cigars were always present. The club was also one of the first organizations in Key West to operate a health insurance plan for members and their families.
