To God, the most good, the most great, the City Council of the very illustrious city of Zaragoza dedicates this Puerta del Carmen, built from its foundations with public money, enlarged, decorated and finished with the riches, generosity and munificence of the Zaragozan Miguel de Losilla, so that a triple entrance is open for Zaragozans who travel to see the King and for travelers eager to visit the city of Cesar Augustus, its temples and the monuments of the martyrs.
In the year 1794 after the birth of Christ, the most excellent councilors of the city embellished the former pine forest of Santa Elena, especially illustrious for the victorious ensigns of the Christians and for the victories achieved in defense of the faith and religion, with this new work built to honor the very noble city, to benefit all citizens and to beautify the Camino Real, while reigning in Spain Charles IV of Bourbon, the new Constantine, and Louise, his much-loved wife.
