1. Broadway Street Marker
Inscription. The street that runs behind the buildings on this side of Main Street was once known as West Main Street, but has been called Broadway for many years. Local mythology holds that this was the Main Street in the early days. There were, however, several businesses on Broadway including rooming houses, assay offices, warehouses and Wong Loy's Chop Suey House. The largest Broadway Street building was the Montana Corral, which stood until the 1950's. The location is now occupied by a parking lot. The 400 Building, a notorious brothel owned by one of Deadwood's Mayors, operated on Broadway Street for many years before being destroyed by the fire in 1900.
