Regarding Kendall County Historic Courthouse. National Register of Historic Places #98001354.
From the National Register Nomination:
The Kendall County Courthouse stands alone on the courthouse square on the high point of the hill arising from the south side of the Fox River in Yorkville, Illinois. The Italianate building is approximately 50 feet tall on the northern elevation from the ground to the top of the gabled end. This height does not include the additional height of the iron platform which originally held a dome on top of the building. Shortly before 4 a.m. on the morning of March 25, 1887 the bell at the Methodist Church across the street from the courthouse began to ring, waking the neighborhood. The court house was on fire! Brave neighbors ran into the blaze and rescued the sheriff, his family, two prisoners, and most the county's records, all of whom were taken to the Beck Hotel. After the flames and smoke subsided all that was left standing of the beautiful building was the brick and

1. Kendall County Courthouse (Wikipedia). Excerpt:
Construction on the Kendall County Courthouse began in 1862 in Yorkville, Illinois on a bluff overlooking the Fox River. The limestone and brick building was completed in 1864 and went into service as the primary judiciary building for Kendall County. At about 4 a.m. on March 25, 1887 the courthouse was struck by fire. Yorkville, without a fire department at the time, was forced to rely upon railroad water cars from nearby Aurora to extinguish any blazes. The railroad cars did not arrive to Yorkville in time and the building was almost completely destroyed. The fire left only the exterior walls standing. After the fire the interior of the building was redesigned and the building reconstructed. The building stayed in use as the courthouse until 1998, when a new facility was built. As of 2008, the courtroom and some meeting room serves as rental space for reunions and conferences.
