1. Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse began protecting ships at sea on July 10, 1860 Marker
Inscription. Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse began protecting ships at sea on July 10, 1860. Now, we honor the U.S. Lighthouse Service crew who built it and the keepers who endured wilderness, wars and storms to keep the light beaming for 150 years. We are proud to be contributors to the sesquicentennial commemoration in the year 2010.

Photo caption: Above, the rendering of the lighthouse as designed by U.S. Army engineer George G. Meade, circa 1854. When erected upon a 48-foot dune, the tower would reach 150 feet and shine its light more than 20 miles at sea.
