Port Gardner in Everett in Snohomish County, Washington — The American West (Northwest)
Rucker Hill Park
The Ruckers began plans for a new city they intended to call Port Gardner, but wealthy east coast investors convinced them to join in the ventuere to begin Everett instead. This effort was a success, and by 1900 the Ruckers were realizing wealth from their investments in a lumber mill, a bank, and real estate. Rucker Heights, what is now Rucker Hill, was among those investments. Water pumped by windmill and a newly completed reservoir opened the way for the development. Their mansion was the first house on the hill. Over the next thirty years Rucker Hill was gradually developed with some of the city's most prominent families living there.
In 1954, Ruby and Jasper Rucker and Margaret Rucker-Amstrong donated half an acre of land to the city for ue as Rucker Hill Park.
