17 augustus 1996 vrijdagnacht halfvijf in de Voetboogstraat te Amsterdam. Vier dronken, opgefokte jongens zoeken ruzie met caf้gangers en een zwerver. Ook twee studenten moeten het ontgelden. Zij worden volledig in elkaar geslagen. JOES KLOPPENBURG roept: KAPPEN NOU!
Volledig zinloos wordt hij daarop doodgeslagen. Hij is 26.

In de Voetboogstraat is op de plek, waar Joes om het leven is gebracht, een gedenkteken.

(English translation:)

It was on August 17, 1996, Friday, at half past four on Voetboogstraat in Amsterdam. Four drunken, boisterous boys pick a fight with bargoers and a homeless man. Two students were also made to suffer. They are completely beaten up. JOES KLOPPENBURG shouted: Stop it! He was then beaten to death completely senselessly. He was 26.

There is a memorial on Voetboogstraat at the spot where Joes was killed.

The manslaughter of Joes Kloppenburg on August 17, 1996 in Amsterdam was a notorious violent crime, in which a 26-year-old man died as a result of nightlife violence.

The perpetrator, Joelan Ritchard L., was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Voetboogstraat. He saw how down the alley a student and young father were being kicked around by some drunken men. Stop it! Kloppenburg shouted at the men. Their aggression turned against him. Kloppenburg himself was beaten up. A few hours later he died at the age of 26 in an Amsterdam hospital.
