1. Meadowland Park Lake Marker
Inscription.
In the early 20th century, man-made Meadowland Park Lake attracted young swimmers who wanted to cool off on hot summer days. At that time resident and fishing enthusiast Clarence B. Riker stocked the pond with fish during the summer months so that everyone with a rod and reel could enjoy the sport. Today, residents refer to it as "The Duck Pond."

Originally, swans made the pond their home, but today primarily Canada geese and ducks paddle across the water. Also, herons and egrets fish in the pond's shallow waters. In winter, the frozen pond invites residents to skate and play hockey; a "skate house" borders the east side of the pond. The South Orange Seaport Society sails model electric boats on The Duck Pond weekly.
