London Grove in Kennett Square in Chester County, Pennsylvania — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
London Grove Monthly Meeting
Our meeting was officially established in 1714 and our membership roster still includes family members of that original gathering. Meeting for Worship is open to all who wish to attend. It begins at 9.30am each First Day (Sunday). We sit in expectant silence, rising to speak when spirit spontaneously inspires us.
Meeting ends at 10:30am and is usually followed by a Gathering ranging from adult First Day School to refreshments and business meetings.
Children join us for the first ten minutes then move into their own program of play and learning. Child care is also available.
Our community pre-school and kindergarten program has been in existence for over 50 years. Intimate groups at a 9:1 ratio experience a wide range of activities designed to faster creativity, an appreciation of nature, respect for individuals and development of problem solving.

Quaker gathering under the William Penn Oak, late 1800s
With twenty committees covering everything from climate change to religious education, members have an abundance of opportunities to put their faith into action. We also participate in global initiatives as part of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and the American Friends Service Committee.
We are honored to house the Penn Charter Oak Tree, which was a young tree when William Penn arrived in Pennsylvania in 1682. When last officially measured, this champion white oak had a breast bigh girth of 22 feet 2 inches, a height of 82.5 feet and a spread of 117 feet.
Our tree has watched over and protected our meeting grounds through the centuries and has been written about in Quaker songs and poems. In warm weather we hold occasional meetings under the tree and many a couple has exchanged marriage vows beneath its spreading arms.
Simple Quaker headstones mark the interment location of Meeting members and others who may have a relationship with our Meeting. This burial ground has been active since 1741. The oldest gravesites are located where the old stone wall and the metal fence meet, next to the Meetinghouse.
