Regarding Dr. Charles Fox Brown House. Excerpts from the National Register nomination:

The house was constructed by Dr. Charles Fox Brown, a physician, as both a dwelling for his family and as a surgery for the examination and treatment of patients. Very few of these nineteenth century home/office buildings are still in existence in Arkansas.

… In 1840, Brown began a study of medicine under T. J. Pollard while clerking in Pollard's drug store. Four years later Brown left Fayetteville to study medicine

2. Dr. Charles Fox Brown House Marker
at Louisville University.

In 1845 Brown returned to Arkansas to practice medicine with Dr. Pollard in Fayetteville. In December, 1846, Dr. Brown moved to Van Buren and began his own medical practice. In 1848 he entered Ohio Medical College , graduating in 1849. Brown then returned to Van Buren and practiced medicine there for the next forty-three years.
