Inscription.  

Het rondeel is een torenvormige uitbouw in de stadsmuur. In de overwelfde ruimte stonden kanonnen opgesteld. De inscriptie meldt dat het bouwwerk in 1515 werd opgericht door Herman in den Zarazien, die toen de stadsfinancien beheerde. ‘Haet ende Nyt ben ich ghenant Minen vianden ben ich onbecant, ende volmaeckt. als men mach sien; Bi meister Herman in den Zarazien. Doe men screef vorwaer Duysent vyfhondert ende sestien jaer’.

(English translation:)
The roundel (defensive tower) is a tower-shaped extension in the city wall. Cannons were positioned in the vaulted space. The inscription states that the structure was constructed in 1515 by Herman in den Zarazien, who then managed the city finances. “ ‘Hate and envy’ I am called."
