Chubb House
Built in 1867 by Dr. Orville P. Chubb, this is the oldest brick house still standing in Fairmont. The bricks were "burnt" of clay from Buffalo Lake in Martin County. It is a tribute to the strength, beauty and vitality of our community - much as the giant oak tree that stands so majestically in the back yard.
The Martin County Preservation Association purchased this historic home in 1992 for restoration.

Dr. O. P. Chubb
Dr. Chubb came to Martin County after serving as a physician in the Civil War and became our first Martin County physician. He also surveyed and platted early Fairmont, engineered construction of its first bridge and was an owner/operator of the first grist mill here.
Dr. Chubb's wife, Sarah, and daughter, Lottie, came the following year. A son, Montier, was born at Fort Fairmont during their first winter.
