Plant 3 was constructed in 1975. Like many plants early in our history, the teams working here built various equipment like balers, small rubber-tire trenchers and large track trenchers. Bigger and more powerful trenchers entered production in the 1980s as new underground pipeline networks connecting energy sources to markets around the world were developed, and the pipeline market took off. Plant 3 became known as the "big iron" plant., In 2008, the Plant 3 high bay was constructed to accommodate products like reclaimers and Terrain Levelerฎ surface excavation machines (SEM's) that support our customers connecting their communities and help manage natural resources. It was out of this high bay that the Vermeer team built the largest piece of construction equipment ever built in Iowa - the T1655III Terrain Leveler SEM. First developed for a customer in Italy who needed a way to transform rocky ground into a vineyard, Terrain Leveler SEMs now help with site-clearing and surface mining resources around the world that are used in our buildings, cars, electronics and medicines., Today, the team in Plant 3 builds more big iron than ever, adding several product lines into Plant 3 following the July 2018 tornado, serving as another testament to the agility and dedication of Vermeer team members to meet customer demand.
