Edward White, Virgil "Gus" Grissom and Roger Chaffee died during an Apollo 1 mock countdown when a fire consumed their capsule cabin, January 27, 1967

Astronauts Ted Freeman, Clifton C. William, Elliot See and Charles Bassett, II died when their T-38 training jets crashed Edward G. Givens died in an automobile accident.

El Onizuka, Christa McAuliffe, Greg Jarvis and Judy Resnik (front row) Mike Smith, Dick Scobee and Rom McNair died during the launch of the Space Shuttle, Challenger January 28, 1986. When crossing new frontiers of knowledge, the human spirit grows in its wisdom. For the freedom of exploring the unknown, we willingly forgo the security of the familiar. This plaque commemorates in loving memory those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for knowledge. With gratitude for the bravery we will eternally be in their debt.
