Inscription. Karl Kuehner, with knowledge of German pastries, stowed away on a ship bound for America in 1896. After his arrival and many stops in the East, he eventually landed in Minster and started Kuehner's Bakery in 1908. Four years later, the bakery, known for it's variety of breads, donuts, buns, rolls and cookies, established it's permanent location at 40 West Fourth Street. In 1957, Karl passed full operation of the business on to Tom Kuehner. In 1979, the bakery was listed for sale but no terms could be agreed upon. The doors closed in 1980. Over the years, many descendants and relatives of the Kuehner's worked at the family business.

Pumpernickel bread was always the bakery's specialty and is still fondly mentioned by many residents today.
