1. Flag of Minster Marker
Inscription.
Represents the strong Christian faith of the community. In the eighth century Charlemagne and Benedictine missionaries brought this faith to the Saxon tribes in the Munster and Osnabruck area of Germany.

Oak Leaf and Acorn - The acorn is a Saxon symbol of strength. The Tree-of-Life was an important feature of many customs.

Canal Boat - The Miami & Erie Canal reached minster in 1843 connecting Cincinnati and Toledo and provided a link between markets of New Orleans and New York. It greatly aided the population and economic growth of our community during crucial years of development.

Horse Heads - An old Saxon custom was to put two crossed wooden equine heads at the peak of the front gable of the old homeland farmhouses to ward-off evil and thus serve as an omen of good fortune.

Colors - Red, White and Yellow are the colors of the flag of Munster, Germany. Brown is added to represent business, industry, and agricultural activities related to the community.

This flag was created in 1982 for Minster's Sesquicentennial Celebration. It represents the faith and heritage, the ethic of hard work, the practical use of common sense, and the good fellowship inherent to our community. Display it with pride!
