1. Parke County Marker
Inscription. Parke County has preserved the majority of its covered bridges, many of them dating back to the 1800s, and boasts more than any other county in the nation. Life in the early communities centered around the mills established along Sugar Creek, Big Raccoon Creek, and their branches. The Wabash and Erie Canal extended into the county in the 1840s.
