Mission San Luis de Apalachee
Both Spaniards and the Apalachee were forced to alter some of their customs in order to coexist. Some traditions were more easily changed than others.

This quartz crystal cross was found in the church at San Luis. Photomicrography reveals how the cross was made and suggests that it was the work of a native artisan. This may be evidence of the Apalachee religious conversion and their adoption of Christian symbols.
