Inscription. Dr. Loew, a Huntington College alumnus, was also a professor here for well over thirty years. He is credited with introducing the growth of soy beans to this part of the state. He was the county's first agriculture agent (1917-1922), directed the Purdue Experimental Station north of the city, and organized local 4H clubs. The city appointed him superintendent of the World War I gardens. He served as Circuit Court Clerk from 1928 until 1932. In 1935 Dr. Loew founded the Botanical Gardens on campus, which became internationally known.
